Since I shared the full 2026 workshop programme, a few of you wrote in asking whether Show Don’t Tell could happen sooner than December. I’m delighted to say — yes, it can. I’m running it on May 30.
So here’s what’s coming up over the next few weeks.
If you’ve heard “show don’t tell” a hundred times and still aren’t quite sure how to apply it in your own writing, the May 30 session is for you. And if you’ve been struggling with your opening pages, or you want to make sure you’re starting your story in exactly the right place, the First Lines & Opening Chapters workshop on June 13 might be just what you need.

MAY 30 — SHOW DON’T TELL (DONE RIGHT)
You’ve heard the rule a hundred times. This session is about understanding it well enough to know when to break it.
Two hours on the most misunderstood piece of writing advice in existence — what it actually means, why it matters, and when telling is exactly what your story needs. We’ll work on the three ways telling goes wrong, look at when it’s the right choice, and spend real time on your own pages.
You’ll leave with a much more precise instinct for the difference. And the confidence to trust it.

JUNE 13 — FIRST LINES & OPENING CHAPTERS
Your first line doesn’t have to be perfect. But it has to be right.
In this focused 2-hour session, we look at what opening chapters are actually doing — beyond “hooking the reader” — and how to make yours do it with intention. We’ll read widely, write quickly, and look hard at what your story needs its beginning to carry. You’ll leave with a clearer opening and a better understanding of why it works.
Works for any genre, any stage of drafting. Bring your opening pages if you have them.

JULY — IDEA TO DRAFT IS BACK
The flagship is back for its July round.
If you’ve been sitting on a story idea and wondering why it hasn’t become a book yet — this is the programme for you. Over four Saturdays, we move from concept through character, structure, scene, and momentum together. This isn’t a lecture series. It’s a working room.
