How I eat my favorite snack
I start off by nibbling at it, saving it, so that it will last long. I then take a teeny weeny bit / bite every now and then, savoring the flavour and the taste. With each successive bite the craving grows and the intervals between bites becomes shorter ans shorter. The craving grows so much that at some point I lose my self-restraint and start taking bigger bites until it is all over before I know what’s happening. I am left, wistfully licking my fingers, checking if anything is still left.
I re-read Blinker’s Off recently. My experience of reading Blinker’s off was very much like eating my favorite snack. I enjoyed every bit of it and want more. I am now in withdrawal – Andy, come back soon with your next offering. I won’t be unhappy if you said, Maybe, not now, but After My Brother’s Wedding.

Andy, I must say I liked Blinkers Off as much as, if not more, than Kite Strings, maybe because I found the character of Noor so identifiable that I could give out the ‘real’ name from our class of CEP’98. (Am kidding! No offense!)
And, that I think is the core strength of Blinkers Off. The characters are so ‘commonplace’ (if I can use that term) that I can see a Noor, a Supriya, a Dennis, a Nandita, etc in almost every young adult I come across.
After reading through Blinkers Off, I wished the novel would not end, and I am very curious to know ‘what next’ in Noor’s life. Any plans for a follow-up?
Blinkers Off is a fun, easy to read book. It’s simplicity keeps you reading and before you know it, you will have taken a trip to college and back. I liked the pace and the humour and as usual, Andy’s characters and setting are believable and real. I am really looking forward to your next books.
The book arrived at my doorstep at noon – putting aside all else, I sat down and greedily opened the book as I do all books; by the end of the first page I was already chuckling to myself, by the third page I knew I was going to enjoy reading the book very much.
Being able to recognize the places in the book only added to my delight. Unnamed areas in Noor’s neighborhood instantly got me wondering whether it was the park down the road or the turning at the end of the street. You confirmed that the park was Richmond Park, I couldn’t help wondering whether the view from Noor’s window was the same as my view from my living room window, and I have a feeling I know where the auto dropped Noor when she returned from Heeba’s haldi.
The story in itself was engrossing. It had me on my toes, constantly giving Noor advice in my head and wishing she could hear me. Normally when there’s a man and a woman in a book, and it’s pretty obvious they’re going to end up together, I find myself thinking through all their troubles, ‘Okay, they’re definitely going to end up together. It’s only a question of how their issues get resolved’. But Dennis’s continued association with Supriya was an immediate negative, and I wasn’t so sure I wanted them to end up together anyway. He seemed to get better after a while, but when he started flirting with Noor without breaking up with Supriya, i began to think maybe the ‘Blinkers Off’ was about Noor realizing she deserved better than this man, and that she had plenty of time left to find her guy, no hurry. The book had me in its grip, and I enjoyed every twist and turn. I loved how the chapters all ended at really gripping moments in the story, and the next chapter took off from right where the previous one ended. You don’t see that often in books.
Like the others have said, the characters were so real. Many times I wished I could just step into the book, slap Heeba real hard and step back out again. I hate the ‘Im seeing you for the first time, but you’re my best friend already, let me drag you down with me’ people. Lol.
You sure are a good story teller. I’m looking forward to your next release
Some senior fellow presented me this book and finally i completed reading it. The story line was good and the climax was just unimaginable. I wanted to read some more about Noor’s life??? Will you come up with a sequel, waiting anxiously to know what will happen in Knor’s (Oops, Noor) life,,,
To say I loved the book would be a gross understatement. I started reading it late one evening last week and I had to had to finish it the same nite. It is an absolute page-turner
Could really visualize the places – Richmond Rd CCFD & Jayanagar Complex – having been there, they brought the book alive. It was like I stepped into the book, and was a fly on the wall observing all the action.
Abt the characters – what can I say that’s not been already said. Noor is such a likeable person and so *real* and so is Ashmita. Can you believe, I *hated* Supriya and was thrilled when Noor twisted her arm. I said “Good for you girl!” and aloud too.
Can’t wait to read your other books.
Congratulations on a great book & here’s wishing us (the readers) many more happy hours of entertaining reads from you!!
“Blinkers Off” is a very light and entertaining read. It was a breath of fresh air and a respite from all the MBAs-turned-authors who write about life in B-schools and corporate offices. The plot was interesting, and you could instantly relate to the characters. We’ve all known girls like Supriya and Noor at some point in our lives, haven’t we? It took me back to my college days. Reminded me of what it felt to have a crush on and fall in love with someone for the first time. The flushing of cheeks, the quickening of heartbeats, the awkwardness…Very accurately put.
The only glitch I had with the book was that it was slightly too long. It could’ve been made crisper. But the story, nevertheless, makes up for it.
I would definitely recommend this. Take your blinkers off and go for it!
